Mbua
My earth angel is my 11 year old son Mbua. This year I have had two surgeries. As young as he is, each time I got home from the hospital, Mbua would cease playing with his friends just to be home to take care of me. When his friends call he would say "I can't play, I need to take care of my mom". Every morning he would fix for me his favorite breakfast of waffles, eggs and tea. Sometimes I was too nauseated to eat, but I would force it because of the extreme love I saw in his eyes. I had to beg him to go outside to get some sunshine and play with his friends. Mbua is a very happy, very simple, happy go luck child who is well-liked by everybody just for the simple things he does to make other people happy. For about a year now he has been struggling himself with a strange illnes that started mildly and occurs very infrequently. He would wake up some mornings and say "Mom my head feels very heavy, it feels as if I am carrying an elephant." This affects his balance and his ability to walk. We have seen many doctors and done many many tests and no-one has been able to diagnose him yet. After many struggles with the insurance companies, we got an approval to go to the mayo clinic for more testing on Decenber 20th. In the meantime his symptoms have progressed to the point where he is almost bedbound. When he has an episode, which is like 3-6 times a week, his legs become very weak, like a person who had a stroke. He is even unable to walk upright anymore during these episodes, so he crawls on the floor. This is a once energetic child who loved soccer, now crawling on the floor. Because our house is small and the hallways are narrow, he is constantly banging and bumping against the walls. His knees and knuncles are getting sore. I have missed work from staying at home to take care of him. Dear earth angels, I was wondering if there is anything you can do for him. I would like to widen the hallways a little bit, and provide some kind of padding on the floor and on the side of the walls so that when he bumps against them, he may not be injured. Thank you.
