Carl Edward

Carl Hambrick was the most wonderful dad that any child could ever have. He was an honest, hard-working, patient, loving man who served his country during combat, and suffered a life-altering injury to his lungs, yet, he kept on giving 100% of his life, love and loyalty to his wife of more than 50 years (Retta Wood), and his 6 children. He raised us to have a sense of pride in our family and ourselves, and instilled in us, the courage it takes to make a family grow in the grace and joy of everyday life. He truly loved his only surviving brother, (Roy Hambrick)as much as any brother can love another. To look into Carl's face, was to see his eyes sparkle with excitement, and his smile with just a hint of mischeviousness, that only a man who is truly confident in his life, and happy knowing, that he is forever loved by God, Jesus, and his whole family, can have! He was respected by his peers, and praised by his country, and greatly loved by his precious wife, and children, and his wonderful brother, Roy. Carl also did something most other men NEVER do--- He read the Bible through, completely,--cover to cover-- over 33 times before he passed away. Even after an eye operation, in his last year of life, he read aloud, the 23rd Psalm to his children. As a teen-ager, I saw my dad on his knees beside his bed, praying to God, and he never knew I was there. What an awesome sight, watching your father, pray to God, and knowing that his prayers would be answered. That sight changed me forever. I never saw my father cry. He was in pain a lot, but he never gave in to tears. Thinking of him now, gives me the strength and the courage to go one more step, to keep on trying, even when I want to give up. My dad was not a quitter in life, and I won't be either. He depended on God, and family, for his joy and happiness, and I will too. He was always quietly helping people- making their lives easier-and he never stepped on their dignity! He was a veteran, but more than that, he was a wonderful, loving husband, and father to his kids. I can't wait until I get to see his smile when I get to heaven one day.We all have missed him so very much- the world seems like it is lonelier without him here. Mama misses him greatly. His brother remembers their childhood together, and mourns for him. His children will never be the same without dad's strong, easy-going, generous, quick wit, to make our world brighter, and our load easier to bear. Our loss is heaven's gain! I love you daddy..(Pappa Doodle) more than words can say!

Love, Dreama
